Politics in Healthcare
The connectedness of our group ('s political issues) has to deal with the education of the community on specific healthcare related issues. We strived to educate the readers with our issues and hopefully give them enough information to help them understand the importance of knowing Healthcare in Politics and empowering them to want to form their own opinion and to take a stand on what they believe in.
This plays into personal as political as each of us knows someone that: is a veteran, dealing with mental health issues or fighting a terminal illness. Each of these are all around us and they become personal to us. With that being said, with how many people each of these things affect, the government needs to step up and take action. These are each discussed to some length with politics, however nothing continues to be done. The personal is how we are connected to the politics , the politics to the personal is how the current systems in place are effecting us.
We want people to be educated and understand the suffrage of people related to these topics. They should look at each individual candidate for their stance on issues like these to determine who they will vote for. The media has candidate bias and want their viewers to be educated based on their stance on topics. We believe that once you can form your own opinion on not only our issues but any issue then you can truly decide and make a judgement for yourself.
Research and Writing Processes
We discovered that the more you researched, the more you had to write about. It was easier to form ideas and opinions when you educated yourself on the issue on more then one aspect. There are always three sides to a story; find them! This helped to expand our views and open our eyes to different opinions related to our issues.
Different genres require different types of research. One source could change your opinion on the topic or have conflicting information from an other. You had to be careful that you were searching reliable sources. The more we researched, the more we dug deeper into our topics and the more intrigued by the information we found.
Ashley choose to adapt her evaluation, she needed to have a different style to showcase her piece in a way that she felt would connect to the readers more. She choose her other two pieces for her revisions as she felt the most connected to these pieces, they were a piece of her and others she loved that she wanted to share with the readers .
Chantel choose her two essays that she did for revisions, as she felt that they were both already strong pieces. She did not choose her first essay, because in her words " I would have had to change everything about it. I was unhappy with it as soon as I did it. I choose to do the journal about why my topic sparked my interest and a piece from my field research journal. I changed the first one into a comic strip showing my story and the field research I turned into a slide show of images and words."
Ted choose to revise his Position and Investigation report because he felt like those pieces had the potential to be better and he would have more ways to make those pieces stronger. He choose to adapt his creative non-fiction because he liked the basic outline of the piece but wanted to challenge himself in the adaption process.
Willie choose to revise his creative non-fiction and position because he felt like those pieces really went into more depth about PTSD and forced him to do more research.
Evaluation
Together our objective was to educate about healthcare related issues and how our issues effect a large group of people. We feel that together we created an e-magazine that provides information that will continue to interest the readers and encourage them to do their own research and form their own opinion, which was the point of our pieces. Chantel, our editor in Chief, did a great job of making sure our pieces easily coexisted.
As individuals we researched our issues very well. Ted double checked all of our research and validated that it was factual.
Ashley was our design editor, we wanted to involve each of our personalities, but continue to have a clean look, as a published piece.
Chantel: "I personally do not see areas where our project is lacking, we have put a lot of time into our own pieces and creating a beautiful looking project. I feel like we did great together. "
Ted: "That is a hard question because everyone is putting out on this assignment and the magazine looks clean and professional and I think we met all the criteria of this assignment."
Ashley: "I think we may be bias on this one, but I think our pieces could be better if more genre's and adaptions were used to really round out the work in this magazine."
Willie: "
The advice we would give to future students would be to educate yourself on what your topic is, and be open to changing your perspective. Realize that everything constantly changes and it's okay if your opinion and stand on things change while you learn. That means you're doing it right.
